What is Preschool Special Education?
The New York State Education Department (NYSED), Office of Special Education oversees a statewide preschool special education program with school districts, municipalities, approved providers and parents.
Evaluations and specially planned individual or group instructional services or programs are provided to eligible children who have a disability that affects their learning.
Funding for these special education programs and services is provided by municipalities and the State.
Preschool at YAP
The Young Autism Program at DDI is committed to providing state-of-the-art, empirically based teaching methodologies to help children gain the skills necessary to be successful in their home, community and school settings.
Our center-based program operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM with services available 12 months per year. We also offer family training at the center, home, and in the community.
The shared goal is to prepare our students for kindergarten by providing a high-quality, intensive learning experience.
Team members provide a transdisciplinary approach to learning where the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis are incorporated into the child’s day.
The child’s individual needs are met through providing ongoing formal and informal assessments, consistent implementation of methodologies in all skill areas, positive behavior supports and differentiated instruction.
Our staff receive extensive training in the areas of Child Development, Health and Safety, Applied Behavior Analysis, Professionalism and Dignity and Respect of children and their families.
